Chichicastenango

This Mayan town of 8000 inhabitants, is famous for its colourful market on Thursdays and Sundays, where everything ranging from fresh fruit to typical handicrafts is sold.

The market place is picturesquely framed by two churches, the Iglesia de Santo Tomas and the Capilla del Calvario, where the Christian religion blends with mystic pagan rituals of the Mayan culture.
